Words of thanks delivered at 72^nd WHA –Awarding Ceremony (24^th May 2019)

Good Morning Mr.President, DG from WHO, Excellencies, Distinguished Guest, Ladies and Gentlemen

I’m deeply honored to receive the prestigious Dr.LEE  Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health 2019, on behalf of Health Promotion Unit of MOHS of Myanmar.  Our State Counselor H.E. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi even mentioned that good health of public is best fortune for the country and we cannot get that fortune easily as a gift from others but acquire through intellect and zeal. The community health clinic model is public health care action orientated activity focusing on screening of common NCD – hypertension and diabetes screening, treatment of uncomplicated cases, elderly care and health literacy promotion.  The pilot model was conducted in Pin Oo- rural health center, Nga Phe Township in Magwe Region.  Trainings were provided to basic health staff for management of the cases and regular supply of essential medicines and equipment was ensured in coordination with various stakeholders. I would like to thank executive board of WHO for awarding this prize.  Myanmar is moving toward UHC and this award is a catalyst for our current activities and the health staff are more energized and charged up to take up new and challenging projects which would work in the benefit of the communities.  I would express my sincere gratitude to HE Dr. Myint Htwe Union Minister of Health and Sports for his guidance and encouragement to implement this CHC model. Last but not the least, I would like to extend my deep appreciation to the basic health service professionals and community members who actively involved in this endeavor.

The entire journey was a learning experience for me and with the success of this project; I am and the environment.
